Humanity struggles to survive on a war-torn earth, abandoned by those who have the resources and connections to leave Earth. Humans with mutations called 'upgrades' make life even harder, and the end of life on earth has a chokehold on what remains of society. ONe disgruntled and depressed police officer and an upgrade in need of protection discover that the trouble might be closer to home than either of them could have ever guessed, and that survival isn't just for the strong.
